Lake Martin

The Children’s Harbor campus on Lake Martin in Alexander City offers several ways for patients and their families to come together and reconnect, often outdoors, in a safe environment for children with various diagnoses.

  • Mariner's Camp

Includes the Henderson House, Pioneer House, and Bay House, which collectively sleep more than 180 guests — plus a full commercial kitchen, food storage, galley seating for 200, med hut, screened-in activity rooms and a swimming pool with handicap and special needs in mind.

  • Lake Cottages

Our Lake Cottages provide lake views and perfect conference and retreat facilities for up to 39 people. Concord Cottage sleeps up to 21 people, Salem Cottage sleeps up to 18 people. Each cottage offers a large meeting room, commercial size kitchens, Wi Fi, decks and charcoal grill.

  • Harbor Lodge

With 11 rustic guest cabins and an additional duplex cabin for speaker or staff, Harbor Lodge creates a tranquil connection with nature. The conference room seats 250 plus two meeting rooms with capacity of 100. Outdoor recreation includes a screened-in activity room, basketball court, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, canoes, water trampoline, and an amphitheater.

  • Hank Williams Cabin

Legend has it, this small country cabin is where Hank Williams Sr. was staying when he and Fred Rose wrote the fan favorite “Poor ol Kaw-Liga" and another classic tune, "Your Cheatin' Heart." The cabin is decorated in a 1952-era motif and includes 2 bedrooms each with twin beds, 1 bath and a porch facing the lake.

  • Plymouth Lighthouse

A replica of the Plymouth Lighthouse serves as the familiar Children’s Harbor icon. Located on Providence Point at our Lake Martin campus, the lighthouse symbolizes Children’s Harbor’s goal of helping children and families find their way through the stormy waters they sometimes face.

  • Children's Chapel

A charming early American church, Children's Chapel seats 125. Non-denominational services are held each Sunday after Labor Day Weekend through the Sunday before Memorial Day Weekend. Children’s Chapel is also the beautiful location for over 50 wedding ceremonies each year.

  • Church in the Pines

Church in the Pines is an open-air a-frame structure with bench seats and a rock pulpit that sits by the shores of Lake Martin at the Kowaliga Bridge. Non-denominational services are held each Sunday from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Many couples also choose this location for their wedding ceremony.

  • Harbor House

With its walls of windows and wrap-around porch giving a panoramic view of Lake Martin, Harbor House is the perfect location for community meetings, family reunions and even as a wedding reception location. Harbor House capacity is 125 persons and contains a small kitchen with microwave, stove, sink and refrigerator.

Children’s Harbor at Lake Martin

In 1987, Ben and Luanne Russell began dreaming of building a place for children and families on Lake Martin on property provided by Russell Lands. The dream became a reality in 1989 with the dedication ceremonies for Children's Harbor, a facility with the primary purpose of hosting camping and retreat services through partnering organizations, providing patients and families a place of rest and restoration.

A replica of the Plymouth Lighthouse is a prominent icon of Children’s Harbor at Lake Martin and is visible from the Kowaliga Bridge. The lighthouse symbolizes our goal of helping children and families find their way through the treacherous waters in which they sometimes find themselves.
