Counseling Services & Camp Hemo

We are so grateful for you, the friends of Children’s Harbor, and your continuous support — together our beacon shines brighter and anything is possible.

The incredible impact you have made possible is happening now in Birmingham and Lake Martin as we serve seriously ill children and their families…

On November in the dialysis unit at the Benjamin Russell Children's Hospital, Children's Harbor counselor Jenny Tudisco organized a therapeutic Thanksgiving themed activity. Tyson expressed the ten things he was most thankful for in the feathers of the turkey. We're very honored to report Children's Harbor made his list — He is thankful for Children's Harbor Camp Hemo. Here's a brief description of our Camp Hemo:

Through the leadership of Jenny Tudisco, Children's Harbor brings "camp" to nephrology patients. For children on dialysis it is difficult to attend a traditional camp because they must receive their dialysis treatments either three times a week or daily, so Children's Harbor hosts a camp for these kids around the Birmingham area. This year Camp Hemo was held July 28th-August 1st. The camp helps teach social skills and making good food choices while out in the community setting.

Here's Tyson's List Of Things He Is Most Grateful For:

  • I'm thankful for dialysis.
  • I'm thankful for Children's Harbor Camp Hemo.
  • I'm thankful for friends.
  • I'm thankful for God.
  • I'm thankful for school.
  • I'm thankful for living to 10 years old.

Camp Hemo Destinations:

Birmingham Zoo, the movies, Birmingham Museum of Art, Treetop, Red Barn Horse Farm, Full Moon BBQ

As a friend of Children's Harbor, you are a blessing to dialysis patients like Tyson who benefit from our counseling services.
