Smith Family

On September 14, 2014, Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church donated the Smith family a van. The family was overjoyed and relieved. For many years the family has struggled with job security because of lack of reliable transportation. Now with their refurbished van a lot of worry and stress has been alleviated from parents Naomi and Deldrick.

The Smiths are such a special family that Children’s Harbor has had the honor of supporting throughout the years. “We came to Children’s Harbor for support in 1995 after Devonte had been diagnosed with cancer. Children’s Harbor has been able to help us cope with the fears and anxiety that came with Devonte’s diagnosis. We have been coming for a very long time and love Children’s Harbor,” said Naomi.

Since Devonte’s diagnosis, the family has been in and out of our Family Center utilizing many programs and services we offer. We always strive to be a beacon of hope and to ensure we are there with the family through their entire journey of healing no matter how long that might be.

Quotes About their Journey with Children’s Harbor:

“The Career Development workshops, trainings and KBR Technology classes have been very helpful. Also, the marriage and family counseling and different activities available for families.” -Deldrick

“Devonte has loved bring apart of the Education, Career Development, Transition Program. He really enjoys going to the Children’s Harbor Transition Camp in September every year.
