Dr. Myrle Grate

Chief Executive Officer

Myrle Grate is the Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Harbor with over 20 years of experience in non-profit work. He began his career serving in various capacities within the United Methodist Church. More recently he served Associate and Executive Pastor roles at United Methodist congregations in Birmingham. In his current position at Children’s Harbor Myrle leads a team of over 30 employees at both the Birmingham and Alexander City locations. Through their ministry at Children's Harbor he oversees the care and operations of dozens of camps for the chronically ill and thousands of families throughout the year. Ever focused on our mission of serving seriously ill children and their families, Myrle values our relationships with the 26 other non-profit organizations with which Children’s Harbor partners.

Myrle is a native of Birmingham. He received his Bachelor’s degree in 1992 from Samford University, his Master of Divinity in 1997 from Beeson Divinity School, and his Doctor of Ministry in 2009 from Asbury Theological Seminary. In his personal time Myrle volunteers with local Boy Scout Troop 13, as a scout master, is a member of Kiwanis Montgomery, and enjoys reading, exercising, and traveling with his family. Myrle and his wife Kathy reside in Wetumpka and have two children. Besides attending and coordinating Church in the Pines on Lake Martin; Myrle is a member of Mulder Memorial United Methodist Church where his family attends.
