Answers to common camp & facility questions.

Thanks to partners and volunteers, Children’s Harbor provides more than 35 illness camps a year. If you have questions about a specific camp or if you would like to register please contact our partner organization directly.

Lake Martin

For our illness camps, the Children’s Harbor campus on Lake Martin in Alexander City offers many ways for patients and their families to come together and reconnect, often outdoors, in a safe environment for children with health challenges.

Technology and Office

Do you have WiFi?

Yes, in Harbor Lodge and the cottages, but not in Mariner's Camp.

Do you have cable TV?

Yes, but only in the cottages and in the conference room at the lodge.

Does each campsite include grounded electrical plugs for medical equipment?

Yes. Every campsite offers grounded plugs for medical equipment and charging devices.

Will I have access to office equipment such as a copy machine, stapler or tape?

No. The offices and office equipment are not available to campers or camp coordinators.

Is there someone I can call if I need assistance after office hours?

We have on-campus staff who will introduce themselves and give you contact numbers at checkin.

Do you have anyone available to speak to our group about Children's Harbor?

Yes. Please contact our office at (334) 857-2133 in advance to plan a time and location.


Camp Planning

Is staff available to accept a food shipment, rental equipment, or other items for my event?

No. We request that each group coordinate food service delivery with their checkin.

Do you have a list of suggested caterers?

Yes. We are happy to furnish a list upon request.

Will I have access to ladders, extension cords or other utility supplies?

No. Please be sure to bring your own.

Do you allow pets?

We only allow service animals.

Do you allow alcohol?

Normally no, but occasionally we do allow alcohol for special events at the Harbor Lodge only. Special permission has to be given in advance.

If I have perishable food that I cannot transport, may I leave it?

Only if special permission has been given.

Do you have a noise ordinance or curfew?

No. We do ask, however, that you respect others on campus.

Do we have to provide a certificate of insurance?

Yes. Certificates of insurance are a requirement for all groups.

Am I responsible for table and room setup and takedown?

Yes.  We do have staff to assist you if prior arrangements have been made.

What am I responsible for upon checkout?

We ask that aside from basic cleaning, you leave the facility in the condition that you found it. Instructions of what to do with trash and linens are in each building.

Do you rent golf carts?

We do not rent golf carts, but you may bring your own. However, we do not allow anyone under the age of 16 to operate a golf cart on our campus.

May we bring a camper?

Yes. Arrangements must be made at reservation.

May we bring outdoor waterslides or an inflatable bouncey?

Yes, but approval must be given at reservation to allow for coordination and the safety of all guests.


Amenities

What should I bring with me?

In the camp area you will need to bring linens, toiletries and all personal items. Linens are furnished in the lodge and cottages. Only cottages have fully furnished kitchens, so for any other area of campus, you will need to bring the kitchen utensils you need.

Do camps have refrigerators for medicines?

Personal sleeping quarters do not have refrigerators, but every campsite has a kitchen with one or more refrigerators.

Where is the closest restaurant and grocery store?

Tallassee, Eclectic and Alexander City are all within 15 minutes of our campus, and all 3 towns have restaurants and grocery stores.

Will I have access to the pool?

The pool may be rented by the day. You must make prior arrangements if you want access to the pool. A lifeguard is required and must be present during any water activities.

Do you rent boats?

No. There are several places on the lake that do rent boats and we are happy to provide referrals. We do have canoes, paddles and life vests available to camp groups. Please speak with campus staff for details.

Do we need to have a lifeguard?

Yes.  If you will be doing any water activities during your stay, you will have to have a certified lifeguard during the time you are in the water. We have a list of local lifeguards if you do not have a lifeguard of your own.
