It is not unusual for young children to become emotionally attached to cuddly toys, blankets, and items made out of soft comforting materials. This is especially true of children that are sick. Children often feel that such items naturally possess a unique essence or an existence that is an extension of their own selves.
Since possession of such items can help children adjust and make the hospital experience less frightful, with your help we plan to deliver a beanie baby to each child when they are admitted through the department of General Patient Admission at Children’s of Alabama.
In an effort to make more families aware of Children’s Harbor Family Center at the time of hospital admission at Children’s of Alabama, these beanie babies will have a co-branded tag with Children’s Harbor and your identity, along with a special welcoming quote (Dear Little Ones, We wish you two things- to give you roots, to give you wings), directions to the Family Center, and a list of resources available summarized under the categories: PLAY, LEARN and RELAX.

Fundraisers can be a “first step” in helping participants experience life from a different perspective. We’ve found that those involved in fundraisers are more likely to volunteer and connect with organizations that align with things they care about.
The Civinettes from Tuscaloosa, Alabama worked together to help fill the claw machine at Children's Harbor in Birmingham, Alabama full of Beanie Babies!
While in the hospital, patients and their families are pulled away from their routines, their friends and many other daily luxuries we easily take for granted. Through Beanies, games, activities, counseling and tutoring - Children’s Harbor Family Center seeks to bring balance, fun and even relaxation back into their lives.
Whether it’s your class, club, association, civic or religious group - we would enjoy partnering with you and helping those in your circle get to know more about “life in the hospital” while improving the quality of life for you and those you’re supporting.

Children’s Harbor recently expanded our Beanie Baby Program to include honoring each patient with a Beanie Baby during inpatient admission. It’s an opportunity for us to introduce our services and an opportunity for sponsors to show families that your organization supports them through the journey they are beginning - whether it lasts a single day, multiple weeks, months or even years.
David and Beth Marsh generously sponsored the 2017 program to ensure every child admitted to COA would receive a Beanie Baby. Your gift or sponsorship would enable Children's Harbor to always keep our claw machine full of Beanie Babies, and hopefully a smile on every child's face who receives one!
Children’s of Alabama is the third largest children’s hospital in the United States and is repeatedly recognized nationally for many areas of specialty pediatric medicine. Last year, Children’s of Alabama facilitated nearly 14,000 inpatient visits.
Beanie Baby Sponsorships are available on a monthly basis, meaning your organization donates the funds required to purchase Beanies for all admissions during the month. Each Beanie offered during admission is cobranded with Children’s Harbor and your organization.

“Since Aariel was big enough to play the claw machine, her goal has been to try and win all of them over the last several years. She loves these beanie babies like they are her pets and knows all of their names by heart.
If Bryce knows we can go to the Children's Harbor Family Center after a chemotherapy treatment to try to win a Beanie Baby, her won't be as stressed and anxious during the hours it takes to finish his treatment.
Due to a severe neurological disorder, Carly can have up to 200 seizures a day. Routine doctor visits can be very stressful for the whole family, but they always know Children's Harbor is there to put some joy back into their day.
