BIRMINGHAM, AL-Children’s Harbor is pleased to announce it has received a $36,800 grant from Alabama Power. The grant will go towards a safety improvement project at the Lake Martin campus. Safety is always a top priority while children and families are enjoying camp at Children’s Harbor, which begins with the facilities. The Lake Martin campus has a reputation for being incredibly well-maintained so that it continues to be accessible to everyone regardless of their abilities. Because of the generous grant awarded from this outstanding company, the 2017 campers will continue to experience all the benefits of camp without interruption.
The grant will be used to replace a handicap accessible, 200 foot curved dock, located at our Lake Martin campus. Each year, Children’s Harbor provides facility grants for dozens of partnering organizations that serve long-term seriously ill children and their families. More than 4,500 campers with illnesses including cancer, spina bifida, autism, severe burns and organ transplants attend camp every year. Their camp experience will truly be enhanced through the safety improvement project Alabama Power is funding.
“With the support and generosity of Alabama Power, Children’s Harbor will continue to be a harbor of comfort for thousands of seriously ill children and their families. This gift exemplifies the company’s generosity as well as its commitment to Children’s Harbor’s progress and to improving quality of life in the community,” said Myrle Grate, Children’s Harbor Chief Executive Officer.
